Introduction to Monofins
A monofin if the first thing (besides good swimming skills) you require to start mermaiding. Without the monofin, you will just have loose fabric around your feet/ankles, and no way to propel yourself with your legs together in the tail. The monofin is what provides the propulsion to move you through the water as you use the dolphin kick movement, giving you the speed and grace of a real mermaid!
The undulating movement starts in the shoulders, with maximum amplitude towards the hips; the legs almost don't bend to transfer the movement to the monofin.
Like all aquatic equipement, safety precautions need to be taken to prevent accidents. Swimming with mermaid tails or monofins should only be allowed under active adult supervision in controlled environments such as a swimming pool.
At Atlantia Merfolk School we have a selection of different Monofins that you are welcome to have a look at or try to see what Monofin suits your needs, comfort, foot sizing, and styling.
Below I will list the different Monofins that we recommend and know are safe, Please please please do not go onto Wish, Ali Express, or Amazon and order cheap and unsafe Monofins.
Monofins are made from a variety of different materials that have a different feel, flexability, surface area, propulsion and Buoyancy for instance.
